

Supporting work crews during construction including office work and field visits.The preferred candidate will have working knowledge of PLS-CADD or the ability and desire to learn PLS-CADD. Developing and assembling design packages including work scope for construction.Preparing bills-of-material and specifications to procure materials for a transmission line project.Directing survey crews and drafting personnel to gather and record data for transmission line design.Creating engineering designs and standards for transmission line projects that include wood and steel structure drawings, line plan and profile, wire arrangements, field reports, transmission switch drawings and wire sag charts.Developing and maintaining a safe environment for transmission lines to ensure the safety of co-workers, contractors, work crews and the general public.Other duties include analyzing transmission line issues and recommending appropriate solutions and alternate design options. The Engineer calculates NESC clearance requirements, develops design packages for construction, creates bills-of-material for transmission line projects, creates standards and associated process flows for transmission structures and lines, and assists in implementation activities. The ability to work independently as well as in teams is a must as the Engineer will coordinate designs with other FirstEnergy areas of responsibility including Transmission Siting and Permitting, Substations, Project Management, Forestry, Real Estate and Construction, as well as the Regional operating companies located across six states. The Engineer directs survey crews and drafting personnel to gather and record data for transmission line design and provides assistance with the preparation of plans for real estate and right of way acquisition, employing skills in GIS and AutoCAD software.
HOW TO SET SHIELD WIRE SAG IN PLS CADD SOFTWARE
The Transmission Lines Engineer designs a variety of wood and steel transmission structures and structure foundations and calculates wire sags and clearances using a robust industry-standard software program known as PLS-CADD. This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
